Pictured on front are four of the Davis children in a portrait taken shortly after the war. Pictured from left to right are Jefferson Davis, Jr. (“Jeff” 1857-1878), Margaret (“Maggie” 1855-1909), William (“Billy” 1861-1872) and Varina Anne (“Winnie” 1864-1898). The Davis’ had two other children, Samuel (1852-1854) and Joseph (1859-1864). It was Joseph who died during the war in April 1864 when he fell from the railing of the rear portico.
